AFP is looking for a talented, well-rounded photojournalist to join our team of photographers based in Washington DC.
You will be part of a permanent rotation of five photographers covering the White House, the Congress, general politics and breaking news. The job involves a fair amount of traveling with the US President and the State Department.
You should have a passion for creative storytelling around the world of politics and the US presidency. You will be dynamic and innovative, with an ability to turn potentially routine coverage into memorable historic moments.
Along with strong technical skills for real-time transmission from the ground and experience in using remote controlled cameras, you will be expected to select, caption and transmit well edited production to the photo desk in a timely manner. You will work under the authority of the North America Photo Editor and his Deputy.
The job requires flexibility in terms of hours and can often include late shifts and weekends. Applicants need to demonstrate an ability to work under pressure. You should have a keen eye for the visual and multimedia aspect of coverage, a big interest in US politics, and be able to work closely with the text and video departments.
The successful candidate will have native or excellent English language skills, a proven interest in US and global affairs and be capable of working well within a team. The post requires strong visual, writing and editing skills, and an ability to produce rapid, well-edited photos to real-time deadlines. The photographer must have excellent news judgment and be willing to work on general news, economic, thematic and sports coverage.
If you are interested in applying, please send a cover letter, resume/CV and portfolio to [email protected]
Only candidates who have been shortlisted for the post will be contacted for an interview. No applications will be considered after the application deadline expires.
